Alan Turing 100s Birthday

Alan Turing 1912-1954. Alan was the founder of what we know as Computer. He was a great scientist and an engineer who's work helped to brake the codes of Enigma back in WW2. He spent his childhood in Boston Lodge, Mazhill, St Leonard's On Sea. Alan was a homosexual who was given the choice of undergo a hormone changing treatment or face imprisonment. Back in his life time homosexuality was illegal and had some punishments. After Alan was given the choice, he finally Committed suicide in 1954. At today's Event the mayor of Hastings Mr Alan Roberts, and HBC Cllrs Trevor Webb, Kim Forward, Jay Kramer, Emily Westley and Peter Chowney also attended.

Refugee Week

Refugee Week of 2012 celebration held at Concordia hall, Church road, St Leonards On Sea was a great event and success. The event was organised by HIO and The Links. Over 150 people from as far as Brighton joined this event. The Mayor of Hasting Alan Roberts, the Council leader Jeremy Birch, Deputy Mayor Bruce Dowling and Cllrs Kim Forward, Trevor Webb, Jay Kramer and Micheal Howard also joined this great event. The atmosphere was great, Performers from the Respond Academy and Chines association gave that little extra spice to the event.

Refugee Week Event

The yearly HIO's Refugee week's event will take place at Concordia hall in co operation with the Links. The event is involving with Children entertainment, Dancing, Singing, Refreshments, and Food. The entry is free.

An estimated 850,000 people live with an undiagnosed diabetes because they do not recognise the tell-tale symptoms. Fatigue, dehydration, weight change, blurred vision and dizziness can be too easily dismissed when they could in fact indicate something far more serious. Clarity Pharmacy are helping members of the public identify the signs and symptoms of the disease during Diabetes Awareness Week commencing June 10th. Our health team will be offering free quick and easy checks to identify if the symptoms are, or could be, the onset of diabetes. We are additionally offering free blood glucose monitors for those with type 1 diabetes and diabetes support materials and aids. We will also be providing diabetic friendly cakes and tea to illustrate how to give yourself a treat on June 14th Our Pharmacist Umesh Patel says: “It can be quite a shock if you suddenly find you're living with diabetes, but that doesn't mean you can't be healthy and have a normal, enjoyable life. My staff and I will provide support and advice about living with and managing the condition” We provide this service throughout the year. However we have chosen Diabetes Week to try and test as many people in St. Leonard's-On-Sea and Hastings as possible to highlight the support we can give.

Treasure Hunt in St Leonards

As part of St Leonards Community project we'd like people to walk around this beautiful town, enjoy the view and meet other residents and in order to help local shops and businesses, We have a little fun game for those interested. A £5 note will be hidden every Sunday somewhere in St Leonards and a picture of the area will be posted on St Leonards Community's facbook page which you can join by clicking on the button bellow, it would be like a treasure hunt, the money should be spent in St Leonards. If the money is not found the first week it'll be added to the following week and so on. Have fun every one and good luck

St Leonards Community meeting on Thursday 10 May 2012

To help St Leonards On Sea move forward there was a meeting which stareted at 6m at Cafe Relax, Marina that finished around 9.30pm. Lizz Colman, Kev Towner, Stephanie Webb and Ali Godarzi attended the meeting. The disscusion was great, the Community issues such as different cultural backgroun, Religion backgroun, Highlighting the possitive points, Helping the businesses and getting diferent communities united were disscused. Due to absence of 3 other members who could not attend at this meeting due to other commitment we felt there is a need to hold an another meeting eighther on 29 or 31 May at 7.30pm at the same place to reach a decision and also form the Committee.
